On the record of starting a business...

While I have your attention for the time being, let me set the record straight about opening a new business.  It is not easy!  The following is part of a list of things that you need to know.

1. Yes, the majority of small businesses struggle and they do sometimes fail.
2. If it was easy, every would be doing it.
3. Don't quit your job to be an entrepreneur, having a job is guaranteed money, what happens if the customers do not come to you.  Make sure you have a nest egg of back up income.
4. The whole world does not want to buy from you!  You need to convince customers that you are good enough for them!
5. Sometimes it is best to start out small and grow your business.  Very few people make millions of dollars every night.  VERY FEW!
6. Use Advertising.
7. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, diversify.
8. For advertising, don't put all your eggs in one basket.
9. You will almost never get 100% financing from a bank.  Some of the exceptions may be if you are existing, and have a great reputation with your bank.  This is still not easy to do though.
10. Don't rule out social media and blogging as a source promotion.  It is inexpensive and can reach younger consumers.
11. Create more than one way for customers to reach you and purchase from you.
12. Do not give up, but know when it is time to call it quits.
